  • My mom, son, and I attended this on Saturday. It was way better organized than when I attended the first year. Having the event at Salt Fields rather than the Waterfront was an A+ move and I hope the Taco Festival takes note. My main gripe was that the Kid's Zone was advertised as having some FREE activities (see the website Event Info tab), which was a big fat lie. Even the blow up slides cost a dollar (1 ticket) for 10 seconds of sliding down a piece of plastic. The Greek Festival was similar but at least they let you buy a $10 wristband for all-day play, no such luck here! The $20 in tickets I bought lasted about 20 minutes. Second, the people selling food & beverage tickets at the entrance told us that everything inside needed to be bought with tickets, and that cash wasn't acceptable. Not so! We bought 20 tickets at $2 a piece ($40) but once inside we were told by several vendors that the tickets were only good for the drinks sold by the festival and the BBQ sample items. Other items like lemonade, roasted corn, ice cream, and the plates of BBQ sold by the vendors - basically anything that was NOT the official $2 little sample item - was cash. A few vendors were cool and took the tickets in lieu of cash, but other vendors said "Nope, cash only" and pointed people to the ATM. Other than those hiccups we really enjoyed the BBQ Festival. Kiss of Smoke was our favorite, they had great ribs as their $2 sample item and my mom and I both LOVED their spicy sauce. I also really liked Honey Bear's slider sample, it was HUGE and yummy! Even though it was very hot, the festival had a large enough tent with plenty of seating to accommodate the crowd. The band was pretty good, too.
