| - On a whim of a friend in need of some cheering-up, we decided to take a stab at Second City's 8pm "Live Wrong and Prosper" show. Despite the company's notable history of producing celebrated alumni, we were a bit wary of what could very easily be mistaken for a big ol' tourist trap. We were pleasantly surprised - the venue was well organized, the waitstaff was welcoming and not pushy and, well.. the show was pretty damn funny - hence a healthy dose of 4-stars!
THE SHOW:
I did feel that some skits were directed towards an older demographic (late 20s and up), which is not necessarily a criticism but something to keep in mind when attending with younger folks. Nothing inappropriate for teens, but they may not appreciate the divorce jokes which even left me (early 20s) a bit stalled in lower-chuckle gear. I mean, divorcing second husbands, yeah, ha, we all know what that's like, amirite? Ha ha.. ha... heh... err tell me that one again in 10 years.
Ultimately, I was laughing due to the energy and beats of the crowd - it was still a great time. For someone who prefers stand-up to sketch, I was converted. They were seamless in spite of having one understudy on that night.
FOOD/DRINKS:
Didn't snack so I can't comment there, but there seemed to be a healthy selection of reasonably priced snacks to order in case you didn't make it to dinner before the show.
FINAL ANECDOTE:
Really enjoyed the way my server kept a straight face when a neighbouring guest ordered a Martini and requested she make it a double. Bonus points for composure right there!
