I'm writing this review from the perspective of a Baltimorean with Lexington Market and a visitor and lover of Pike Place Market in Seattle. For a tourist, West Side market gives you a taste of city living and public markets. There's a great view from the second floor over the market. But, there really isn't anywhere to sit to eat. If visiting, I recommend the pasta shop and finding some handcrafted buckeyes.
The Market is split into two sections. One side is pure produce. Before buying, be sure to scour this side. The prices vary from $1 to $3 for a pomegranate.
The majority of goods in the market seem to be butchers / meats. I love the western European ethnic vibe. The Baltimore public markets are largely Korean owned / run and specialize in ready to go foods. This market seems to have much more of the old school doing groceries mentality.
Overall, well worth the trip. And a first time visit for the long time Youngstown friends I was visiting. If you've never been to a public market you will love it. If you have your own you will like it.
