I've been here both years and had an amazing time!
For 2012 they made some idiot decisions like having 2 main stages with the headliner on the stage further from VIPs, and not giving said VIP's any value for the additional ticket price. 2013 seemed to fix both those issues and was generally a hell of a lot more organized. 2012 was a first-year event and it showed; i'm really glad to see they improved. Also the barcardi tent was better placed and not full of mud this year (they put some sort of gravel down).
VIP is now actually worth the extra $40 (if you buy your tickets in advance) because:
1. There's 2 ways to get into the vip area now, with 1 being right next to the side of the stage.
2. Free water filling station (was shocked at not being able to find one outside of VIP)
3. "Real" washrooms and a bunch of port-a-potties with no line up.
4. Bars with no line up.
5. Lots of seats in a giant tent to relax.
6. "Express" entry to the event (2012 had this in theory but at the event they were letting anyone in through it). They also had separate lines for wrist-band pickup for VIP's.
7. Free parking (they claimed this in 2012 as well, but made me pay for parking).
If you don't get VIP it's no big deal as all the action and fun is outside of that area anyways. I think it's worth it just to have a pace to get a break from the crowd and relax with a drink, before heading back into the thick of it.
For food there's a lot of the usual festival food and overpriced $4 bottles of water. I had the pulled pork sandwich (i think $8) and a blooming onion ($12), which were both better than i was expecting. Drinks were $12 for a red bull / vodka (they were out of red bull so this became a $12 coke and vodka).
The DJ's all depend on your personal preference. I thought Avicii last year was incredible and thought the 2013 lineup was a bit disappointing (i'm not a big fan of deadmau5). Steve Aoiki always throws an entertaining show.
