To this day when someone asks for a recommendation for a cocktail bar in Charlotte Barreled at the Lift is still one of my top recommendations. You really can't beat the great atmosphere and delicious cocktails.
My friend and I went here for our ladies night out last Saturday and we were able to snag a seat at the bar. Yes, the bar area is small but when you can find a seat (or reserve a table if you are a bigger group) it feels cozy and lends to the speakeasy theme. The bartenders are dressed in semi formal vests and are cocktail experts. We spent the whole time sitting at the bar mesmerized at the skill and efficiency of our bartender. He slammed cups on top of the metal mixers and would throw the concoction in the air while mixing.
On to our drinks - the bartender sampled each cocktail before it went out so you know they were perfect. My favorite drink here is the giggle water - gin, fresh muddled strawberries and mint. It is delicious and has just a hint of sweetness. My friend experimented with the options from their spicy menu and loved it.
The best part - our drinks were only $10 each. I am pretty sure I have paid that in the city for a well liquor and plain soda. Definitely a great deal for such a craft drink with all fresh ingredients!
Oh and they do Hookah, and seem to have lots of custom blends and such. Hookah isn't my thing but this seems to be a good spot if that's your thing.
