| - Ok so let's just get this out of the way right here. I am full grown adult lady person and I went to see Matilda the Musical with my boyfriend for my birthday. So this is review does not come from the perspective of one who was with kids. I also don't know if a review for a venue is the place for an actual theatre performance review, so I'm going to leave that out of this as well.
I can say is that the Ed Mirvish Theatre is really beautiful. Walking by the busy Yonge Street or Victoria Street entrances may not give this impression, especially with all the chain restaurants, fast food, electronic stores, etc. But, stepping through the doors all of that washes away.
What is not so beautiful are the concession prices. I forgot my reusable water bottle at home but was thirsty from my bike ride to the theatre so I lined up and ordered a bottle for myself and my date. I expected a bit of a price tag because that seems to be the standard at theatres these days, but $8 for two waters is next level. I kicked myself even harder when, during intermission, I saw a man filling up a plastic cup at a set of water fountains in another area of the lobby. Something to remember for next time.
The seating situation here seems pretty good no matter where you are. I can't say this with absolute certainty, but we were sat on the mezzanine level pretty far to the right and I could see fine. I should say though that I have good vision as does my partner. We were both also pretty comfortable in our seats (as comfortable as anyone can be sitting still for 1.5 hours at a time, anyway). But again, he's 6 ft and I'm a little shorter. If he was much taller his knees would have been touching the seat in front. If you're tall, maybe shoot for an aisle seat.
