This is a great spot! Stayed here after a couple of seriously disappointing nights at the nearby, and more costly M Montreal.
The common area is super cosy and chill. Couches and a flat screen TV with game consoles and DVD's. The kitchen is a nice size with 4 or 5 fridges to hold all the food of the hungry travellers - this is key!! I have never seen such amazing fridge real-estate in a hostel before. There is a large area with tables and chairs for eating, and another smaller area off in the corner where people are working on their laptops and tablets. In addition, in the downstairs/bathroom area of the hostel, there are lots of areas to chill.
The staff there clearly like their job and take pride in the hostel - this makes all the difference. Super friendly and helpful!
This hostel could improve by adding more outlets/reading lights to the bed. There was only one outlet in my 8 bed dorm, and it was by the door - so if I needed to charge my phone overnight and set an alarm for the next day, I would wake up my entire dorm. However I realise that this is an expensive project that wouldn't really generate any more revenue.. it's still annoying.
Also I was on the third floor, with an 8 bed dorm without a bathroom. The bathroom was in the basement, so I had to go up and down 4 flights of stairs to get to it. Again, not a deal breaker, but a bit annoying.
I will definitely go back and stay there again when I am in Montreal - though I will request a room on the main floor so that I don't have to run a stair master marathon to use the loo!
