| - Don't get me wrong, I used to like Ella's and I think their premise is unique and awesome but if only their food and desserts could match the atmosphere....
The last time I was there, I took my out of town parents there for dessert. After perusing the sticky menu binder (seriously, why is the menu a binder?), the unfriendly waiter took our order. Black & white delight sundae for me, root beer float for mom, and can't remember what dad ordered. Everything was just.....meh. Seems like Ella's is simply resting on their laurels. Maybe they could take some pointers from other ice cream parlors such as Fenton's Creamery in Oakland, CA where the food is good, ice cream is delicious, and there are lines out the door.
Sorry but now when I think of getting ice cream, I don't think of going to Ella's. I instead think of the Chocolate Shoppe or maybe even Michael's. If they gave the place a hose down, dusted off some of the kitschy mechanical's, and slimmed down the menu a bit, Ella's might be able to compete with other establishments who are just doing it better.
