| - ...but more like a 3.5. so after admiring a many shiny and perfectly manicured nails at my work, I ask all the girls what it is they're doing. Girls 1, 2 & 3 all say, 'shellac manicure'. Of course I research this and decide late yesterday I need to make an appointment as I have a wedding coming up. And, these manicures are supposed to last anywhere from 2-4 weeks. TWO to FOUR weeks?! Unheard of. Plus I like getting my nails did.So I call Silver Beauty Spa because it was close to my work, and booked, thankfully they got me in last minute.
I went into this teeny tiny spa, and the girl at the front was very kind. She told me to take my time getting comfortable and put my things down, drink water, use la toilette etc, but did not take my jacket (I had a gym bag, a jacket a purse and a shopping bag) so it would've been nice to have the assistance. Minor, but still.
What was more major was someone there, maybe a worker(?) had some awesome body odor, like with a capital B.O., enough to make you gag, holy man. I'm glad I don't work in HR because I could never confront someone and tell them they stink. As disgusting as this is, I know from travels, you get used to this fast and it fades away eventually. Except when I got knocked down by it again up close.
My nail technician was a quiet, lady, whose name I forgot to ask. She was meticulous with the preparation of my nails, which is important as the shellac mani is a thicker, gel like substance that coats your nails, yet doesn't grow out all nasty like the traditional gel or acrylics do - since there are no tips. The technician also mentioned this is much better for the nail versus the other options.
They had numerous nail colors to try from, but being the practical and cautious type I am, I chose clear in case I didn't like it. She took a full 50 minutes to do my manicure.
Now, to the reason this place gets a 3.5...aside from eau the B.O. incense (did I mention this place is tiny?) was that while the towels used were clean, they clearly had nail polish stain on them, and they were white. Maybe I'm being picky, but I didn't like it, doesn't look professional.
The other, and more important reason was that they didn't let me nails dry long enough. And the machine kept shutting on and off and I had to turn it back on. The tech did check for dryness, but by the time I got home my nails went from looking nice and glass like to matte because I had been using them a bit. It won;t bunch and get ruined like traditional manis. but you don't know I had gotten a manicure after it had been done. Shellac is sensitive so I was told and needs at least 5 or more minutes to fully dry, mine was like 2 and a half ( found this out after). Anyways, I think if that last part hadn't happened, I'd give it a 4, but it did make the manicure. i went home and applied topcoat to get a nicer finish, but after paying $40.00 I expected not to have to do it myself. That being said my nails did and do now look nice, and I would do shellac again, but may try another salon first.
