  • I am currently a patient at M.D. Anderson. Except for the exceptional doctor that I have seen twice for deep vein thrombosis, I am so unimpressed with this organization. The scheduler was one of the rudest people I have ever dealt with. Just trying to get an appointment was a nightmare. The scheduler told me she would call back that day with an appointment date. I waited for almost 2 weeks and no call. I called the administrative offices and complained. I got a call a short while later and was given a date and time. I then (as is my practice) went to the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners to check out the doctor's credentials. To my great consternation, that particular doctor had been on two years' probation for substance abuse! I called M.D. Anderson and requested another doctor. The same scheduler actually got ugly and defensive and told me that I had been perfectly happy with the name of the doctor she gave me. I then explained that I had searched the doctor's name on the BOMEX web site and learned of his history. She then said she would find another doctor and let me know. I don't remember the length between then and when she actually called, but she let me know that she was making an exception and that the doctor I would now be seeing "made an exception" to see me. Can you imagine? The only reason I have been to see the new doctor twice is because he is the one redeeming factor of that place! I have had blood tests and will need to return again to have another series of blood tests while they ascertain the origin of my blood clots. As if that weren't bad enough, today I received a form letter from a Ms. Andy Kramer Petersen, President and Chief Executive Officer of Banner Health Foundation. The letter recounted the medical history of "Joe." The letter was asking for a donation of $50 or more. OK, I don't feel that coming to current patients for money is an ethical thing to do, it was the enclosed payment card that really sent me over the edge! What took my breath away and enraged me was the small box that I could check if I wanted to include M.D. Anderson in my will!!!! I am highly offended and angry beyond belief at this unprofessional behavior, to say the least.
