The Liberty is growing, and perhaps this location in South End is in a state of transition.
A recent experience that we had this past Sunday was not good: Long (45 minute) wait for beer & food, unhappy service staff, semi-raw bacon served with a rather small, sad pancake that was missing the apples... and they were out of the duck poutine. :(
It's a shame when a place doesn't meet your expectations - especially on a holiday weekend outing with the whole family in tow. We have been coming to this restaurant since it opened, and typically leave with the feeling it was time and money well spent. But everyone has bad days - and this includes restaurants.
Though I must say that Matt, the owner/manager, is a good guy who stands behind his employees. He has always made us feel important and been accommodating. Their fries & burgers are hard to beat and the poutine is a real treat. Scottish Salmon with Farro is super solid. Let's hope that the Liberty continues to provide chef-driven, top quality cuisine - with integrity - for many more years to come and keeps the right to call itself a "Gastro-Pub."
Go ahead and give The Liberty a try... we'll be back for some duck poutine, let's hope that they are ready for us.
