went to see star trek last night - wife recommended this theatre (she grew up in the neighbourhood and remembers the theatre fondly). I'm a big fan and supporter of neighbourhood theatres, but the Humber was a letdown.
Unfortunately a lot has changed in 30 years. We paid $13 each - same price as going to the Cineplex Queensway. This theatre needs a total renovation if it intends to continue as a movie theatre and compete. It looks like nothing has been touched in 20 years - filthy carpets, ripped stairs, old washrooms with dispensers not working, no elevator (what about seniors and disabled people who can't get to the lower theatre?), staff playing on their phones. The concession prices were reasonable (yeah!), but we were in the big theatre upstairs and the overhead lights were dimmed but not turned off during the screening (very annoying).
I would return to this theatre only after it enjoys a gut reno and is remade into something like a Rainbow Cinema or a Film.ca theatre (ex Oakville). Those would be appropriate models for a revamp.
There is a neighbourhood/local market for a revamped theatre (The New Humber ?), but it has to be done right to appeal to the average moviegoer. Unless the Humber changes with the times, it will be on its last legs.
