I just moved to Arizona a couple of weeks ago and was dreading the trip to the DMV/MVD. I had heard horror stories and read terrible reviews. I was pleasantly surprised and had a fantastic experience. I am from Missouri so had my title even though there was a lien on it. Also my title is in my married name (now divorced) so that could have added a degree of difficulty. Below is my timeline.
1. Waiting in line for number - 10 min
2. Got number, sat down and called to get my photo taken - 2 min
3. Told to sit back down and wait for number to be called again - 1 min
4. Went to the desk where my license and registration were completed at the same time - 45 min
5. Went and turned in my license app so I could get my temp license - 10 min
I was in and out in about an hour and 10 minutes which I didn't think was bad considering I had a slightly complicated situation. Jed was very friendly and chatted with me the whole time. The person I got my number from was also friendly. If you notice my wait times were about 20 minutes and I did not think that was bad considering how many people were there. There were few seats available to sit and the line was long.
I would recommend going Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday around 2:00. I got there at 2:30 and think I would have been a bit quicker had I been there at 2. But I'm still impressed by the time it took and how great the employees were. I still do not look forward to the MVD but at least I know now that not everyone has a horrible story.
