| - It's been a while since I've been to AMC. Our past experiences have been just fine, but it appears that AMC has followed in the "plush revolution" that theaters are going through. Kudos!
I took my youngest son and his friend to see a movie. We didn't buy our tickets ahead of time, we just walked in. Like all theaters now, it seems, you buy from a touch-screen system, pick your seats, etc. They do have tellers, so you can bypass the technology if you like. The lobby was spacious, open, and clean. We looked at the snacks, but passed (I can't cough up $5 for a small cup of soda, or $4 for a box of candy that is $1 at Walgreens). We found our theater and went in to locate our seats.
The theaters all have the comfy "dream lounger" recliners. Very nice. I appreciated the clear markings in the carpet showing what aisle you were at. I was surprised how much room each row had, being separated by walls. It kinda felt like you were sitting in a luxury suite. For the first time in my life I felt like the movie could have been a little louder, but perhaps being a 10:50am kids movie, they had it turned down a notch. It was fine, but I'm used to blaring movie volumes at theaters (which helps drown out the near-constant crinkly wrapper noises around you).
The bathrooms were clean and conveniently located. The teller offered me a "rewards card" program, but I was shocked to hear it costs $12/year. Huh? It gives you free upgrades (buy a medium soda, get a large). Um, no thanks.
While AMC isn't the closest theater to my home, I will always consider it for a better showtime or, like in today's case, having a movie that other places are no longer running.
