I'm lying in bed with a belly ache after gorging here today. Usually the lineup is out the door and down the street but fortunately the whole neighborhood was at a street festival and this place wasn't busy so I took advantage. In a sea of trendy gelato places and soulless frozen yogurt joints - Dutch Dreams is every child's ultimate fantasy. Imagine you are 8 years old and you've just won the Hunger Games and your prize is "anything in the world you want" and one of your requests is the most decadent, childlike, fun and cartoony ice cream parlor you can imagine. This is that place. Dutch Dreams is how I imagine the candy house in the woods from Hansel and Gretel to look like.
Anyways, it's basically the absolute best ice cream parlor in Toronto and anywhere else for that matter.
Today I ordered a simple cone with half chocolate fudge and half watermelon ice cream. They never fail to top their cones with an abundance of berries, pineapple, kiwi, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and a waffle cone piece.
It's safer and less messy to get your ice cream in a cup but even with the cones, they manage to secure all the toppings in place.
And remember - this isn't just a summer indulgence. There's nothing cozier than hiding out in their charming indoor seating area on a snowy winter's day and chowing down on their ice cream and hot fudge brownie monstrosity!
