| - Let me start off by saying that I would not wish this place upon my worst enemy. They did my wedding cake, and honestly, it was beyond terrible. It was single-handedly the most plain, simple, ugly wedding cake I had ever seen in my life.
I'll back up and start from the begining. I live in NYC, but I had my wedding at a hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh. This hotel has a contract with Bethal bakery, so cost per person included a wedding cake from here. Honestly, I was thrilled. Though I've never been here myself, I read good things about Bethal Bakery.
My fiance and I found the wedding cake of our dreams online. We made a special trip to Pittsburgh so that we could have our cake consultation. I brought a picture of the cake we loved to the consult. I wanted everything to be exactly like the picture, with 1 exception - Instead of Ivory ribbon I wanted the color to match my bridemaid dresses. So, I also gave them a swatch of that color.
During the consultation, our consultant understood everything. She took the picture and the swatch and also wrote exactly what we wanted. We were given a copy of this, and it was perfect. She told us that because we wanted leaves on the cake, we had to pay an additional $280. We thought that was pricey, seeing that the cost was supposed to be covered by the hotel, however, we didn't say a word because we were getting the cake that we wanted. We paid.
Well...let me tell you. I did not get the cake of my dreams. I got some horrible. Plain white cake with about 12-15 leaves on it. The top of the cake was supposed to be covered in mult-colored fall leaves. There was nothing on the top! I mean, who does that? Who puts NOTHING on the top of their wedding cake? NO ONE. No one does that. There were supposed to be huge bunches of multi-colored leaves all over the cake. There were groups of 2 leaves that were put on to covere the seams of the ribbon. The leaves were the same exact color of the ribbon, so you couldn't even see them. It was so terrible. Not a single person complimented the cake. It was like they ran out of time to decorate my cake, so they just threw on a few weak leaves.
When I called to complain, the woman had the nerve to tell me she thought I was calling to tell her how wonderful she was. To her credit, I will say that she did refund me my $280, but that was only after I asked her too. She said she thought she did exactly what I wanted, even though it looked NOTHING like the picture I provided or was NOTHING like the write up. And, they never called to ask me any questions in the days leading up to my wedding.
This placed ruined the perfection of the rest of my wedding day. I will NEVER, EVER go to this place again, nor would I recommend them to anyone.
