| - Saw Spring Awakening at the Canon today, for the second time.
Last week, my mother and my sisters took me to see this play for my birthday (for most families, going with your mom to a play where masturbation-set-to-song, we-try-our-best-abortions, gay make-out sessions and on-stage sex scenes; nipples, asses and all, written in 1800's Germany, set to modern-day rock, would cause some discomfort, but for my family, it makes for an entertaining sunday birthday gift). I LOVED it. I've seen so many plays, and this musical was so different and the cast was so talented, I decided my musical, creative, ambitious boyfriend would appreciate it as well.
Okay, so not so much. I'm sure he'll review all on his own, but in short, he didn't see the connection. Perhaps being raised in a very conservative, religious environment, I got it a little more, but, overall, ignoring the juxtaposition between 1800s Germany and 2000s modernism, I may never sing again for fear of hearing their voices in my head and feeling so ridiculously inferior. goosebumps.
Blondy gay dude made the play, and his lovers' voice shut me up for the rest of the play. Incredibly talented cast.
Different + talented = amazing.
