  • I was very much looking forward to trying this restaurant. But because of such poor service during my experience here, I can say with confidence that my first visit to Osteria Papavero will also be my last. Examples of the poor service: -We stood 5-10 minutes with multiple servers seeing us and walking past us with no greeting and no discussion about finding us a table. -After getting a table, we sat about 10 minutes before being greeted by a server. -Husband found a hair in his water glass. "Oh gross" and a new water was the apology. -My glass of wine took 20 minutes to arrive at our table and arrived with our entrees. The wine arrived after a reminder to our server. -I watched plates of food sit on the counter for 5-10 minutes before a server would pick them up and deliver them to the designated table. I watched one server walk up to the counter, look at the ticket by the dishes, then walk away. This struck me as poor teamwork among the staff. Guests are hungry, and their food is clearly ready. - I watched a server cleaning glasses at the bar look up and make eye contact with two guests who walked in, and then went back to cleaning the glasses. Are guests unwanted? Finally, I also had a few concerns with the Italian theme of the restaurant: - Osteria Papavero should do what restaurants in Italy do: The servers should ask guests if they would like an espresso (or at least coffee) after their meal before delivering the check. - If the specials on the chalkboard are written in Italian, the servers should correctly pronounce the dishes when they explain them to guests. My server pronounced "vongole" as "vahn-goalie." No. For the food, the apps and entrees were fine. I enjoyed my saffron pasta, although I thought it could have used more salt; the only noticeable flavors to me were pasta and saffron. The desserts (lemon custard with blueberry compote and chocolate brioche bread pudding) were quite heavenly! In the end, I found the extremely poor level of customer service really disappointing and took it as my signal to not go back. I really wanted to like this place. What a bummer.
