My older dog's health had been declining for awhile. We had taken him to his regular vet and they confirmed that it was only a matter of time before he would have to be put to sleep. On a Saturday morning I made an appointment for his regular vet to have him pts the following Monday. By that same evening it was obvious that he was too miserable to last two more days so my husband searched and found 1st Pet as the closest emergency vet. We called ahead and let them know that we were coming and explained the situation.
We carried my old man in and simply told the young lady at the front desk that we called earlier. She was very sweet and immediately directed us to an exam room so that we wouldn't have to sit with our ailing dog in the waiting room. The room they put us in was larger than a regular vet's exam room. It was dimly lit and had a comfortable couch, so it didn't exactly feel like we were just at a regular vet appointment. I don't remember everything, because I was a complete hysterical mess over my dog, but every single person was so kind and understanding. The vet tech and the vet did everything they could to make it as comfortable as possible for my dog and for my husband and me. The situation was my worst nightmare, but they put every effort into making it as tolerable as possible. They let us take as long as we needed and they kept my dog's favorite blanket with him even when we left.
I received my dog's ashes within days. They sent a beautiful sympathy card with an ink print of my dog's paw. I've never had to have a dog PTS before, but from what I've heard, the cost was very reasonable considering I wanted his ashes returned to me.
I can't say enough good things about this veterinary center. They helped us make the best of a horrible situation. I felt that every employee that we interacted with truly cared what we were going through. I cannot thank them enough for the way they treating my us and our dog in his final hours.
