  • Awful! Unprofessional! Unreliable! My 1st delivery order: I set up a delivery for 2:00-3:00 p.m. On delivery day, my phone had been off. I turned it on at 1:15 and found THREE voice mails from the delivery guy Ed saying he was going to be early. He called at 11:30, 12:30 and 1:00 p.m. I learned later (through his own admission) that he'd sat in his delivery truck in front of my home for over an hour because he didn't want to leave and come back at 2:00. So Safeway is paying him to sit in his truck? My neighbor saw him sitting there and went outside to ask him why he was just parked in front of my house. The driver told me that! He said, "It's good to have neighbors like that!" Also, he said he wanted to deliver my items early because, according to him, he had "stuff to do at home". Then I saw that the specials on my Safeway card were never applied, so I'd been overcharged. I had to call the 1-800 number, wait on hold for a long time, and talk to an unhelpful guy for over 30 minutes to get my $12 refunded. I gave Safeway a 2nd chance. With the 2nd delivery, I added an online note to the driver saying I could NOT be here before 2:00. I wound up being here anyway because my husband scheduled the exterminator for 12:30 on the same day. The Safeway delivery guy came to the door just before 1:00 p.m. He said, "I saw your note not to be here before 2:00, but I decided to try it anyway since I was already here". (My car was in the garage and you couldn't tell if I was home or not). I gave Safeway a 3rd chance. Delivery was scheduled for between 7:00-8:00 p.m. last night. At 8:10, nobody had arrived. I called the 1-800 number to check on the delivery. A young guy answered, was blasé, and said there were no driver issues recorded in the log book; they'd probably be here soon. You could tell he just wanted to give me the brush-off. I told him about the other delivery problems I'd had and asked him to verify that they'd be here within a reasonable time frame because we had to leave the house soon. So, he put me on hold - FOR SIXTEEN MINUTES! He never came back. I hung up and called back. A woman name Sandra answered. She informed me that the drivers were running very late. But the 1st guy said there were no issues in the log book! And, why didn't I get a courtesy call saying they'd be late? Sandra put me on hold and tried to call my driver. She came back and said she "couldn't reach him". I said I had to leave the house. (It was about 8:30). Sandra rescheduled the delivery for 11:00-1:00 today (Sat). At 9:20 last night, I saw that there were 5 missed calls on my phone, all made between 9:12 and 9:17. The same number again called right then. I answered and the Safeway delivery guy Ed - (the same one that sat in his truck the 1st time) said he was at my house. I told him I had rescheduled for tomorrow since nobody had gotten here by 8:30. So he got mad and hung up on me! At 12:30 today, I called the 1-800 number to confirm delivery by 1:00. Sandra answered again and put me on hold. She tried to call the driver and yet again "couldn't reach him". She said she'd call me a bit past 1:00 to see if they'd delivered. At 1:00, a delivery kid called me and said his truck battery died and he'd get here between 2:00-3:00. What? Sandra called me back at 1:10 and I told her about the driver's battery. She said, "o...k...", like it was news to her. She said she'd do some digging and call me right back. At 2:15, I still had no call-back. I called her AGAIN. She apologized, basically admitting she'd forgotten to call me, and said she'd call me back within 10 minutes. She was still waiting on a response from the delivery supervisor in the Phoenix store. She did call back 10 minutes later and confirmed that my delivery was on its way. The kid finally arrived with my groceries at 2:45. This last grocery delivery was a total fiasco, and was poorly handled by Safeway on every level. Safeway's lack of communication and total disregard for customer service has left a bad taste in my mouth. Grocery delivery is supposed to be more *convenient* than going to the store. It's NOT with Safeway!
