| - I first learned about the CN Tower's new attraction, EDGE WALK, on Rick Mercer's show last year and it immediately peaked my interest.
Myself & 3 friends had the opportunity of trying it back in October , and, we're all happy we went through with it. From the moment we arrived to the moment we completed the walk, everything was organized very well and the EDGE WALK team were very friendly. We arrived about 30 minutes in advance of our walk, and received our "jump suits" and safety training. Once you've had your training, you take the elevator to the top of the CN TOWER (along with the EDGE WALK instructor). At the top, everyone is snapped into a harness, which is attached to a railing that goes along the entire outside platform of the Tower, and then lead outside onto the platform. I wasn't that nervous leading up to the walk, HOWEVER, that all changed once the sliding door opened and I was standing outside, on the edge of the CN TOWER, overlooking Toronto!!!!!!
(It's unbelievable how quiet and calm it was up there; No sirens, no cars honking their horns, nothing!! It was glorious!) While you're up there, you walk around the edge, and, throughout the walk, the instructor will try to get you to try leaning over the edge- frontwards, AND backwards. It sounds terrifying, but, you have to try it at least once, or you'll regret it!
All in all, it was a great experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone that is visiting Toronto, or lives in Toronto, seeking something different to try. If you're an extreme sports enthusiast (IE. sky-diving/bungee jumping/free-falling off of high buildings, etc.) it may not give you the same rush, BUT, i still think you'll enjoy it! If anyone ever says "The CN TOWER is boring.", tell them to try the EDGE WALK, their opinion will likely change!
Tips/Advice -
1) It costs about $200/per person. Sounds expensive, but, trust me, it's a lot of fun and worth every penny! Plus you get a pic to remember the experience.
2) The whole process takes about 70 minutes (from the moment you arrive, check in, get your jumpsuit, etc.). The actual walk is about 20-25 minutes.
3) It can get very windy/cool up on the top, so make sure dress properly (they provide you with gloves/hats if you need it).
4) Keep in mind, only 6 people can go up at once.
5) Go in the late season, OR "non-peak hours" to avoid crowds. It's only been open for about a year, and I'm sure it will get busier as word spreads.
