  • I tried out the latest Bag Sale, and unfortunately, this one was a complete miss. To the uninitiated, this is a sale where the Kind Exchange puts certain clothes into a special area. You get a green plastic bag, and you can fill it up for $20. For people on a budget, this is a wonderful thing. The Roncesvalles location has a large, two-room basement which is usually closed, but it was opened for the sale. Sounds promising, but... Strike 1: Although some of the clothes were displayed on proper racks, others were tossed into cardboard boxes on the floor. Listen, KX-- digging through dirty cardboard boxes completely takes the dignity out of the bag sale experience. Just ban this hideous practice, please. This is a store, not a shelter. Strike 2: Dust. So much dust. Layers of it covered the shoes that lined the room. The shoes may have been in good condition, but it was hard to tell through the mounds of dust bunnies. Gross. Strike 3: Terrible selection. I know that most these clothes were donated, but still-- why do people donate things with rips and stains? This basement felt like the place where clothing comes to die. People of Roncesvalles, this isn't the Kind Exchange's fault. You can do better than this. And wash your clothes before you bring them in. Geez. Strike 4: Worst of all, it is atrocious that the bag sale basement customers are not allowed to use the fitting rooms upstairs in the "real" store. Not only is the basement open and unstaffed, but it is freezing, dirty, there isn't a private place to change, and worst of all, there isn't a single mirror down there. How are you supposed to buy clothes like this? This is an appallingly bad call. Instead of having fun filling a bag, you just feel sorry that you're shopping under such sad conditions. I've said this before for other locations, and there is absolutely no need to treat customers this way-- even if they're only going to spend $20, they deserve a safe place to try on clothing, and they deserve to shop with dignity. This store is alarmingly overstocked-- it has some good things but it's almost impossible to find them like this. A bit of dignity goes a long way, KX.
