  • We've been to various Fleming's many times - looked forward to our visits as "special nights". Gradually however, we've noticed a decline in quality coupled with a fairly noticeable increase in price. We haven't been in some time due to cost, but got pulled in based on an unsolicited $50 gift card I received from them. Our visit last night was probably our last visit - just not worth the cost. We both had the "Angus" rib-eyes. My SO had hers med, mine med-rare. The waitress asked us if we wanted them "seared" to put a crust on them and we both said yes. (Don't recall being asked previously, most steak houses assume this is how one wants an expensive steak.) Both were pretty much cooked to order, except no sear whatsoever - on my worst night I put a better sear on my steaks. Also, we both noted that the steaks were extremely lean, not a hint of marbling. Both steaks were fairly juicy, but as a result of the leanness much more reminiscent of a choice NY strip, not even close to a prime ribeye. We're both big steak eaters, both at home and at restaurants, and both of these steaks were poor renditions of $50/lb prime meat - slightly chewy and missing the flavor of a juicy, marbled ribeye. If you like ribeyes you know what I'm talking about. I routinely buy choice ribeyes at Costco, and recently bought a couple of choice 2" thick bone-in ribeyes at Safeway - both were *vastly* superior in flavor and tenderness to what we had last night - and both were about $13/lb, not $50/lb. (I get that one is also paying for the experience, but the food has to match or you're not getting your money's worth.) The Fleming's potatoes were good, however seems like the portion is smaller. Two smallish servings of potatoes and cheese for $12. Spinach was very good, as was the service. Tab came to about $165 plus tip with two decent glasses of wine and no dessert ($115 plus tip after our gift card). We did not drive home with warm thoughts about the wonderful meal we'd just had, and probably won't be spending our dining dollars at Fleming's in the future. (Update: interestingly, less than two weeks after I posted this review news came out that several Fleming's locations are closing because they are "under-performing" - apparently others also feel that overpriced, less than stellar food just doesn't cut it.)
