Absolutely loved the Pioneer Village that I went twice. The 1st time in September and the 2nd time during December.
SITE
The village is a historic site where they brought all the remaining pioneer houses from all over Canada to this one spot. Some of these houses had people living in them right up to the 1970's apparently. Sometimes if you're lucky, they will show you the northern part of the village where you can see a 200yr old barn house. It was absolutely fantastic. The logs were the size of ...I don't know...HUGE. There are no such logs in Canada anymore (size-wise).
You need a whole day at the village to walk into EACH house, ask questions to the pioneers (actors dressed up in pioneer attire), and read the information boards.
CHRISTMAS VISIT
You need a second day just to go during Christmas time! They have plenty of activities each hour. I was there and got to taste Pioneer Toffee Candy, learn about pioneer food and taste pudding, watch "William" tell a story about how a businessman stole his idea of producing beer in his mill and selling it at his hotel (really good), and more!
COST
Adult $15
Senior $14
Student $14
Children $11
Under 4 Free
Still a little expensive if you want to bring a whole family ($52 - 2 adults, 2 children). So if you plan on going more than once, get a family membership for $95
CLIENTELE
This place is for families and people who like to walk around and learn about history. I tried to drag my ex to this thing and he absolutely did not want to go. So this is a 5 star for people who like this type of activity, a 1 star for people who don't.
TIPS
1. Dress warmly (if in winter) b/c there is a lot of walking around.
2. Don't wear nice shoes. There is alot of mud and sand.
3. Bring your camera!
4. Bring some money. They have reasonable prices if you want to try freshly made minced meat tarts $1 (the crust was amazing) or apply cider $1. I didn't check the prices of other treats.
