| - I've been coming to Shakespeare's for the last several months solely for their Wednesday night live trivia contests; I live too far to frequent it otherwise. The wait staff have always been prompt and courteous, so no complaints there. My current issue, which I took up directly with the owner, is a format change in their contests, wherein they will no longer have a moderator reading a couple of the rounds' questions. It feels less participatory, and as a result, less fun, in a team context, to remove that element of interplay.
In defending his "tweaking" of the format, he seemed to be significantly overstating the frequency and repetition of questions that required clarification, and that, he claimed, was disturbing some of the bar-top poker machine players. Given that they probably draw upwards of 80-100 people every Wednesday for these contests, I think a few questions repeated over the PA for clarification are a small price to pay, when one considers the risk of losing the many players who like the new format less or not-at-all.
