| - DO NOT USE DOLLAR!!! THE DING/DENT SCAM IS FOR REAL. My wife and I visited Canada for a vacation and rented a very basic car from Dollar Car Rental at the airport. They told me to go inspect the car, and make any note of existing damage. In retrospect, we should've DEMANDED a Dollar Car Rental employee do the inspection with us, b/c what this company does is put this onus on the customer, banking on the fact that the customer will just do a cursory review and be on their way. Even if one customer happens to do a more in-depth inspection, it's no skin off of Dollar Car Rental b/c that's usually the exception, not the rule. They're counting on most customers to be very lax with this inspection b/c when you come to return it, THAT'S when the employee does the inspection with you, hoping to find some damage that was overlooked by the rental car novice customer when they first inspected it. After inspecting the car at pick-up, there was no reportable damage. For 3 nights, the car was parked in the garage at the Hilton in Ontario. We walked to every place b/c we were visiting Niagara Falls, we only needed the car from the airport to the hotel. But when we return it, we all of a sudden get told that there is damage/scratches BELOW THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR?!?!?!?!!? SERIOUSLY, BELOW THE F'ING DOOR, like a consumer is going to check the f'ing underside of the passenger side door?!?!?!
Of course, we had nothing we could do when we returned it, as we had to rush to make our flight. But of course, a few weeks later, we get a call from some nasty B#$&@ saying we owe $1,600 now (on a bare bones base model 2015 VW Jetta) for some magically appearing scratches nearly on the undercarriage of the car. I'll be gd if I pay Dollar Car Rental a dime for anything else.
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT, I REPEAT AGAIN, DO NOT USE DOLLAR CAR RENTAL IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET SCAMMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
