Ugh, seriously? This is the airport that is YEG's huge competition and that has way more sweet international flights? It's so small! And boring!
I hadn't been to YYC for a few years but was recently forced to fly through there to get to London after Air Canada cancelled direct winter flights from Edmonton... I was very surprised and disappointed to see that there is only one sit down restaurant past security, and that it's a Chili's. If you have any kind of layover, having just a "Euro Cafe" isn't going to cut it in terms of passing the time or having a good meal. To make matters worse, there are these huge windows allowing those passengers who are trapped beyond security to see into the pre-security area and all of the fast food places and shops in there. And nobody wants to leave the secure area just to get some Edo and go through all of that hassle again.
On our return from London to Calgary we had to clear customs and go through security again. Not a problem, of course. Noticed that the security line was quite long and not moving very fast at all. There are some workers there who check your boarding pass and speed you ahead if you're short on connection time, which was really nice.
Bonus points for the helpful airport staff scattered around to help point people in the right direction. Most of them were really nice and one of them even made a cute little Stampede joke.
Still, I will continue to avoid this airport as much as possible in the future.
