Probably the best example of a coop that's 'authentic' to coop ethos yet profitable. We shop here for many groceries.
The good: Amazing fresh produce, eggs, and milk. Good locally produced frozen foods. Terrific local breads, cheeses, and honeys. They carry Kickapoo coffee (that's really the name!), locally roasted and nationally ranked.
The inconsistent: Prepared foods, fresh fish (sometimes not-so-fresh), house-made desserts.
The bad: About 40% of the staff is bitter or snarky, and not in an endearing way. The prices of produce can be exorbitant. They put the socially adjusted employees at the register, which is a good idea. Some of cashiers are quite friendly and have a good sense of humor.
For some reason they stopped carrying spicy cheese bread, which I used to look forward to on Saturday afternoons. Shop here instead of Whole Foods--especially to support local.
