| - I stopped in yesterday, looking for another mattress place, but somewhat intrigued at this store's mattresses. I thought that since I was there, I would take a look around and see what that store was about, perhaps purchase something if it hit the mark in terms of specs. When I mentioned the name of the other mattress place, the salesman said, "You DO know that ______ sells used mattresses, right?"
As a business owner, I was so turned off. Spreading rumors and telling lies about another company is a poor sales tactic. Selling me on the merit of his mattresses, perhaps attempting to educate me on what to look for in a mattress (although I've spent months researching exactly what I want), would have been a much better tack. I told him how offensive his comment was and that I wouldn't be buying anything there.
I went to the other store and spent $1,000 on a queen mattress which will be delivered from their warehouse today. The manager of the other store took it in stride, saying that there was no way that they could have opened 19 stores over the past 20 years if that were the case. I agree, as I'd dealt with them before, and the mattress that they'd sold me then worked out very well for my daughter.
Good luck on your mattress hunt! Avoid any store that will speak unkindly about their competitor. This isn't the presidential election, for Pete's sake! ;-)
