A disabled family member has been scheduled for eye surgery here, because we were told that she would NOT have to transfer out of her wheelchair, that their staff is equipped to deal with that, no problem whatsoever, they can just keep her in her wheelchair, etc. Every time we went (which was far too many times -- what is the deal with all the appointments you set up? Is it so you can bill insurance multiple times, rather then being efficient and getting it all done in one go?!?!?), we were asked "can she transfer?" It was set up in her file that she cannot, but we were still asked repeatedly. Now that surgery is nearing, we have been told that she needs to be transported on a stretcher. WHAT? We would not have used this facility if they had been honest initially about what they can and cannot handle with a disabled person. It has been very difficult and stressful to deal with them. The expense of getting her there on a stretcher is going to be very high. They were not honest in their communication to us about being able to accommodate her.
