  • Not only an impressive selection of rums from around the regions of the world the produce rum, but also incredibly knowledgeable staff! I had a delightful happy hour here speaking with bar manager Elena who educated me on the various regions and style of rum distilling. One new fave was a Jamaican rum from distiller Smith & Cross... navy strength. Yes sir!!! Bartender Matt kept me supplied with delicious happy hour food and specials and introduced me to a rather delicious Venezuelan rum. I sampled happy hour sized smoky pineapple guacamole with plantain chips - WOW seriously one of the best guacs I've ever had. And I've lived in San Diego and New Mexico which is the bar for me for access to great fresh guacamole. Totally unexpected find in Pittsburgh. Another awesome aspect of Pirata is the pirate-themed movies that play on the TV with captions and the volume down so you can enjoy conversation but have a good laugh watching Goonies or Pirates of the Caribbean. Total fan!!! Will return for sure because now I know of a rum based bar and restaurant that delivers on rum and rations.
