  • I like that this new Fresh Market is bright and very open and roomy, especially when compared to Strawberry Hill where I usually shop. There seems to be a good variety of items and also more prepared and ready-to-eat food like pizza and a salad bar, neither of which I've tried yet. However, the customer service is lacking. I didn't encounter many employees and the ones I did were busy stocking. They were friendly enough, but were not engaging and I know when I worked at TFM that was a cardinal rule. Interacting with the customer about the food and engaging and encouraging them. This is what sets Fresh Market apart from similar upscale markets, drives sales, and in fact makes it a destination. Some specific instances today include a friendly bakery associate who was the only person out front in her dept. and admitted so when she apologized she was busy and especially so because Thanksgiving week; no associate in candy/coffee and we shopped there for 15 minutes while my mother made up her mind; and finally our cashier barely acknowledged us. He couldn't be bothered to look at us and was actually looking up and away beyond us (maybe looking outside through the clerestory windows?). Not positive, but wondering if English not his first language. I had more interaction with the woman in line in front of who had 4 large bouquets of flowers. Finally a few weeks ago I gave a very positive survey and wrote that I was delighted to find this new store and would be back even though I don't live in Ballantyne. Do you think I got even a thanks from corporate? Not that I was looking for one, but still.... Lastly and maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the flyer I picked up a few weeks ago said they were holding a Thanksgiving food sampling event from 12 to 6 PM November 22, but at 130 PM there was no evidence and a stocking associate thought it started at 2 and another stocker was unsure. No manager in sight. No one checked. Again I might have been wrong. I will go back though.
