| - While staying at the Red Rock we took advantage of one of their promotions and got a discount on a couples spa treatment. I was interested anyway since I don't usually indulge in a massage for myself and I can still count the number of times that I've been to a spa on a single hand. There's no delicate way to better describe it, but my hope was also to erase the memory of a prior massage experience at a different spa where my masseuse scratched the shit out of me...
Either we were incredibly stupid, or incredibly smart; we scheduled our couples 50min Swedish massage for 1000am on a Monday morning...
Leading up to this we signed up for a 800am yoga class in one of the fitness rooms for $15 for a single hour session of vinyasa flow. The instructor is a local yogi that has been doing yoga for many years and also has classes downtown. We figured what better way to preface a massage than to get our endorphins going; well there are other ways but we chose the way of building sweat equity...
After our yoga class, we went to our respective locker rooms like fighters in a ring going to their respective corners after the round is over. One distinct advantage to scheduling an early Monday morning massage was that we practically had the spa facility to ourselves. The locker rooms were nice, complete with robes and sandals, a endless supply of rolled towels and grooming supplies as well as all the popular magazines strategically placed in each of the lounging areas including the one near the jacuzzi and the cold dip pool. There is also a sauna room with an adjoining rainfall shower array which was nice...
We agreed to meet at 920am at the outdoor pool that is outside the spa; it feels more private and secluded than the regular hotel pool, and we had it ourselves and didn't even have to fight anybody for a cabana. There was a large tv screen that was not on as one of the reviewers had noted...
Prior to coming out to the pool, Mrs L. took advantage of the fitness center where most of other clients of the spa seemed to be concentrated on individual biking, jogging, and/or weight lifting on the various machines or free weights...
Fifteen minutes before our appointment we again retreated to our respective locker rooms where we prepared for our massage. We were led from our lounges to our room which was appointed with massage tables, subdued lights, and candles. I remember the room having a floor to ceiling window that was private and let in just enough ambient light so that the room didn't feel claustrophobic. Our masseuses did a wonderful job with our Swedish massages, I felt as relaxed as a noodle afterward...
As full service spas go, this one in not as luxurious as Karlovy Vary in Last Holiday, but we really enjoyed the feeling of exclusiveness and having it to ourselves, that was really nice and relaxing. I'm not so sure I would have felt the same way if we had to share it with others...
