  • Hang on kiddies this is gonna be a long one. Chima is an okay place to eat if you have a good appetite. The reception area is very nicely decorated. However service was very lacking. I guess it was my mistake to go here on restaurant week when everything is fully booked and expect good service. To clarify I did not actually participate in the restaurant week special, though the experience left me wishing I had because none of the gauchos actually check your token to see if you bought the full experience or not. A nice surprise for half of my table as they got a great deal. Though those who paid full price can't help but ask why did they bother? Our waiter greeted us nicely, took drink orders in quite a timely manner and explained the ins and outs of the concept. Quite a nice guy though obviously in a rush as they were understandably packed. Left to our own devices we wandered over to the nicely appointed salad bar. All of the items on the salad bar were nicely stocked despite the crowd and my selections made me quite happy. The corn flan was quite the standout for me with it's luscious and creamy texture with the slight sweetness of the corn. Though probably not a good start to a already heavy meal but still my favorite. This would work great as a dessert with a berry coulis or something. Onto the main entrees. The little appetizers they brought out were quite delicious though I find it hard to recall any of them except the fried plantains. Meats were quite varied and for the most part nicely cooked. Fish on the other hand was mostly overcooked for me and quite tasteless compared to the well seasoned meats. What's up with that? Moving towards dessert which is an extra charge onto the meal. They were reasonably priced and all were satisfactory. The cheesecake was quite a standout with a soft creamy finish and not too sweet or grainy at all. Though a lot of us couldn't take more than a few bites of our dessert and I wish they would have offered a togo container or something instead of just taking it away after a while. Such a waste of food and maybe we could have finished them in the time it took while waiting for our checks. Which brings me to my first paragraph's criticism! The service was super slow. One of our group joked while waiting for the check that we spent most of the meal waiting. This might have not been a joke now that I think about it. Chima's pretty good if you want to get a large variety of meats in one trip, but I think I'd rather go to a regular steakhouse in the future.
