| - What a wonderful find, right under our noses! Why hadn't we come in before?
NMB is located in a convenient but unusual area. To the east is a pretty trashy neighborhood around Dunlap and 12th. To the north is the gorgeous North Mountain area and Point Tapatio. That's why one can easily miss this place and drive right by it. It's across the street from a cell tower camouflaged as a palm tree and catty corner from a funeral parlor. But, once you walk inside, you're inside a lively and HUGE real, actual brewpub. There are tanks behind the very large bar and a very big beer-hall sized restaurant.
The real test is the beer though, right? NMB wins in the beer category. The C.R.E.E.M. is listed as #1 on the menu and rightly so. It's a gorgeous, creamy ale. Did I not already mention how CREAMY it tastes? Unreal.
Unlike a lot of PHX brewery's there's actually a lot for vegetarians, gluten free and paleo type people to eat here. Paleo and beer? Well, sure, they aren't really compatible, but if you want to go carb free for the food, you can. There's also a black bean burger for the veg people and huge veggie sides for the no-carb folks too. Gluten free people might be able to do the fried rice unless the soy sauce is a problem.
I think I covered it all for the alt food people. ;-) I guess I should mention that my Salted Caramel Ale (or whatever it's actually called - they say it's made with homemade caramel) was very, very good. It was rich like a porter, but less chocolatey. I loved it.
I like the fact that you can get 9 oz beers here. I don't want a big pint. I like to take tastes. They also have 8 beer flights for $15.
NMB is a keeper.
