  • Had to return my 69 Baja Bug to this place several times against my will because I was not paying for the labor; therefore, I didn't have much say about which mechanic did the work. Normally, I would have nothing to complain about in an instance like this, but that was not the case at Doug's Bugs and Bunnies. The mechanics had an understanding that if there was anything that would need to be replaced or fixed soon, they should report the problem so it could be fixed and paid for all at once. Well the first time I left there, four foot tall explosions were coming out of my tailpipe about every 200 feet (probably had not been test driven). The next time I left there, 3rd gear no longer was available (obviously had not been test driven). Once that was fixed, I was able to actually drive the car when I left (still drove extremely poorly, but I attributed this to the fact that the engine is still brand new). Eventually (about a week later), the car completely stopped being able to start. It seemed to me to be an issue with the fuel pump, which they had already replaced, so I told them I didn't think I should have to pay to fix it. I also told them that I really wanted to just be able to drive the car, since every time they had worked on it, the car wasn't in good running condition even though thousands of dollars had been thrown into it. The problem ended up being sludge in the fuel tank, which I thought would be on a checklist since they were being paid to essentially look for problems. They told me it would cost $550. They offered no discount on the labor even though I specified multiple times that I was not pleased with their quality of work. Then, they had the gall to charge me $90 for the diagnosis. Anyway, I put some fuel treatment in the tank and cleared out the hoses myself, and she started right up. $550 can kiss my candy ass. I still gave them 2 stars because at least they know what they're talking about. Oh, by the way, they have a 4 foot tall pile of Negro Modelo cans behind their garage. If you want an awesome general mechanic, look up We-Fix-It Auto Repair. If you want an old car worked on, look up Lil' Moe's Garage.
