  • STAY AWAY!!! STAY AWAY!!! STAY AWAY!!! (You've been warned.) My story: I rented a car from this location upon my arrival in Toronto. I prepaid for all of it (2 month period) online. Picking up the car, and the car itself were really no problems. Easy peasy as they say. The horror began when I returned the car. Upon returning the car, I made sure the gas tank was full. Having returned the car 10 days early I was expecting some kind of refund. The guy who checked in my car, did his inspection, gave me a receipt which I stupidly did not look over carefully because I was in a hurry for my flight. 4 days later I get a charge on my credit card for $500. I called Avis Customer Support asking what the charge was. They said I went over my mileage. I had 6000km that came with the rental. I was confused, I only drove it probably 1500km the whole time. How was this possible? They said that I checked it out with 1000km and returned it with 12000km. "What the f*ck?" I yelled at the poor guy on the phone. He said I drove 8000 km alone in a period of two weeks. That's like going from NY to LA and back! I told them this has got be a mistake. He said he would give me a claim number and call me back the following week when the car came in to double check the mileage. Maybe it was a mistake. I said ok. Next week came and went nothing. I called again. Giving the next person the claim number. Claim number was not found. I re-explained my situation to the person on the phone. All very polite and helpful up-front. She gave me another claim number and told me she would email me with an update but also to call the location itself. I called the location, Rose in customer service, was a nice lady. Helpful and returned my calls. But she said she checked the car and it had read 12000+ km and now reads 13000 km. I though I was losing my mind. Did I sleep drive to Vancouver and back without knowing it? If so, Ripley's needs to get in touch with me. So again, I called the national Customer Service. Again I gave them my claim number and again they didn't have it on file! I told this young customer service rep my issue. He looked it up, and said that the car was checked in with 12k but then the next time it was brought it was checked in at 5500 km!!! "Hallelujah!!!" I said. "Finally! Can I get my money back?" He said absolutely, and that he is going to pass it on to his supervisor and I should get an email updating my refund. As of now. Haven't recieved an email or a phone call. I'm going to give it the weekend to sort itself out. If it doesn't, I will keep fighting. But what a headache this has been. AVIS. Never Again.
