| - Let's start by saying: I am a massive Mariah Carey fan. Even so, I hadn't a clue I would be SO impressed with her "#1 to Infinity" show in Las Vegas! I was blown away by how many times I felt the urge to stand and sing along and clap and sing along more!
Given I am turning 30 this year and she is only getting older herself, my husband bought me tickets to her show for Valentine's Day! We saw her February 20th at her final show (in this round of the series) at The Colosseum at Caesar's Palace. We were both blown away by her performance!
Firstly, do NOT use SeatGeek or FanXchange. I was devastated for a good month & a half after purchasing my tickets from the two companies. I spent a couple hours researching different costs online, seating charts at the Colosseum, and sorting through thousands of Mariah Carey photos on Instagram to ensure I was picking the right seats for her show. Additionally, I spent more for "hard tickets" rather getting a discount for quick "e-tickets". To my surprise, they overnighted me e-tickets! I fought with both entities for weeks without success. I consulted with three lawyers. I even begged Caesar's Palace (well, and cried at the box office) to make an exception and exchange my e-tickets for hard tickets. Nope. So, if you are like me collect all tickets from operas to sporting events to your idol's concert for keepsake purposes - I am asking you to purchase directly from Caesar's Palace so you too do not get stuck in a terrible place like I did! Considering we spent $1700 for a 24 hour trip into Las Vegas, this was more than a disappointment!
With that, her show and the pictures that will last a lifetime made up for FanXchange's mistake!
So why do I think Mariah Carey in concert is worth the spendy price tag? Allow me to offer some insight in case you are on the fence!
- Venue: The Colosseum really doesn't have a bad seat in house! But we sat in the front row (A) of Orchestra 4 (which I think is considered "Rear Orchestra") and honestly they were the best seats ever. The seats were comfortable, we had more than ample leg room (a typical complaint from my husband), we had no issues with people standing in front of us forcing us to stand, AND she passed directly in front of us! Make sure you see the pictures accompanied with this review! We were neighbor to the production crew as well, so it was also guaranteed no stragglers would be permitted to stand nearby our row without a valid ticket in hand.
- Presentation: Of course done with subtle hints of butterfly after butterfly, her stage continued to impress as the show went on! I give huge props to MC's production crew! The lighting, props & backdrops were all stunning! So many bright colors and surprisingly entertaining interludes (videos, mostly).
- Style: Now we all know Mariah is a diva, the Ultimate Diva I think would be more appropriate, and she did not disappoint! She had like seven wardrobe changes with three visibly obvious hair changes. I am not just talking a couple curls here & there - she went from tight curls to big waves to straight as the run-way models, and within no time!
- Show: Mariah Carey gave a performance featuring the perfect mix of upbeat jams to memorable ballads (and yes, she hit every note!). But, I will be the first to admit I totally missed that "#1 to Infinity" meant exactly that: a timeline of her best hits! Haha! Imagine how bubbly I was when I realized she was starting with her 90s hits and consecutively singing her #1s in order through the past couple decades of my life!
- Crew: Something I admired most was MC's hand-picked dancing crew from all over! And their ability to keep my attention too! During her interludes, she mostly played fast, hip hop tunes. Her crew nailed the dance moves each time! I was really happy that at the end, they not only announced the names of her dance crew, but also where they were from too. She employs dancers from all over, from London to Brooklyn to South Carolina to STL and KC! Being a Missouri gal, I gave a pretty large round of applause for those two!
- Execution: Perfect. Period.
It's worth it!
