| - Pomo is possibly one of the best pizza spots in Phoenix, and there are a few. Napoli would be proud of what is being served up at this quaint little place. It's a winner.
Why go there:
Central Ave is full of good places to eat downtown. This place stands out because of the quality and consistency of their pizzas. They had pizzas that took me back to my childhood where this Italian man from Napoli, in Paris (no less), would crank out about 80 pies on select nights in our neighborhood, from his wood fired oven built in his obscure van.. The Pomo fam is for real. Their pies are tossed into this stone oven, wood burning oven, possibly holding a 900 degree heat, and come out lighting fast. Their Neapolitan pizzas are truly a reminder of what Italian food tastes like in Italy. Sauces are not thick and heavy, everything is balanced and fresh. The apps and dessert card are solid with plenty to choose from but not too diverse. Service is always solid and they know their stuff.
Don't miss:
Two pizzas stand out, the Diavola if you enjoy a little kick from a spicy salami. And a white pizzas with four cheeses, the Quattro Fromaggi. They also have a killer house made gnocchi that will surely please, that's a good main dish to share actually as an appetizer actually. Hope you are humble enough to ask for a good wine pairing, because what you get here will surely elevate their offerings. Their desserts... really, almost any of them will do. We've tried them all (don't judge). Our soft spot is for the panna cotta... we'll have two please.
Tip:
If you can and don't mind, try to sit at the bar where they make the pizzas, it's fascinating, the guys craft those pies with love and precision. It's refreshing, get a good front row seat if you're not looking to gaze into each other's eyes over dinner. This is gonna be equally as fun. The GM will come by after your meal for a round of limoncello on the house for the table. Not a bad way to see you off, so hang tight and save a bit of room for that last little goodie... Salute!
