  • Worth checking out---even if you leave empty-handed. I've been here four or five times since it opened, and never purchased more than a single bags worth. For my needs, too expensive. And I'm not familiar enough with the specifics behind organics---or the health benefits---so until I read up, I'll avoid anything that's outrageously priced. Like zucchini, which I love and regularly prepare. At $3.49 lb., I'll pass, thank you. Are they kidding? Almost triple the price of Marcs. Shopping here IS fun, though. Actually, for me, maybe it's more like sightseeing than shopping. I DO hope EF does well, so I'll do my part to purchase things every few weeks, but I can't ever see it replacing my more reasonably-priced regulars. For instance, had a sweet tooth. Scanned a display of specialty chocolate candy bars. Each was about 3.25 oz.---at $6.99! At $35 lb., I'll pass, thank you. Are they kidding? Lost the sweet tooth, and moved onto pasta sauces. Needed pecans for a chicken salad I'm making today. At 15.99 lb., I'll pass, thank you. Are they kidding? Purchased a half-pound of their cashews instead, at $8.99 lb. Had to check out their prepared dishes today. (Haven't purchased any yet.) Some looked pretty tasty, and pricing seemed close to GE and H. The only thing that peeked my interest, though, was the Herb-Roasted Scottish Salmon. For years I buy Alaskan only, but never had any from Scotland. The nice woman offered to give me a sample. "Thanks! ...just a real tiny edge is fine.", forming my thumb and pointer finger into an opening the size of a quarter. She breaks off a chunk the size of a charcoal briquette, and puts it into a little serving cup. "Wow. I hope I like it." I felt guilty taking it from her. Felt even worse after tasting it, and not wanting to take a second bite. s-t-r-o-n-g. At $23.99 lb., I'll pass, thank you. Sticking to salmon from Alaska---expensive, but mild and less $ than this. Twice before picked up Creme Brulee from their bakery. Both times, two small servings at $3.49 each. Nothing more than sweet and runny scrambled eggs. Second time, called and asked to speak to the bakery manager, who wasn't in that day. Told the store manager---very nicely, I assure you---that the bakery doesn't know how to make it---that I'd be happy to teach them. She giggled softly, and thanked me---I was serious! Today third time---3 months since the last. They still can't get it right. It had a more solid consistency, but overly-sweet, and still w-a-a-a-y off the mark. (If anyone reading this has ever had it from here----and unless I just happened to get it on 3 different off-days---this is not Creme Brulee. If you liked it---you are in for a fantastic treat if you ever taste the REAL thing.) It's not rocket science. It's all technique. FYI...First and second time, EF apologized and refunded. I probably won't bother telling them about this last one. No more EF Creme Brulee---3 strikes---and they're out. Maybe 6 or 7 towers of unwrapped soap in small, irregular, hand-cut wedges. Pretty, inviting, in pastel colors, with little signs for each fragrance. But hardly any scent at all from every one I picked up and smelled---me and probably hundreds of other customers. (If you buy one of these soaps---just like fresh fruit---I'd suggest washing it well before using. haha) At $1.29 oz, I'll pass, thank you. That would make it over $5 for a normal size bar. I'll stick to wrapped and ready-to-use Dove and Yardley---with soft, lasting, noticeable scents---for about $2. Last week needed a rotisserie chicken to cut up and add to Paprikash and Noodles that I'd made. At 7.95 less .75 cent coupon, wasn't bad. Honestly? The best is Marcs at Kamm's for less than $5, then EF, then GE. Last month, purchased a pound of ground chuck for maybe just .20 more per pound than GE. Hoped it would be more flavorful, but no difference. Whether shopping or sightseeing here at Earth Fare, enjoy yourself. It's an experience. If new, I'd recommend at least an hour to acclimate yourself, and be able to take a decent amount in. EF is a terrific addition to Westgate especially, and to the West Side, so I really hope they do well.
