I had the best cup of black coffee that I've ever had at Troubadour. That's worth something. If it's possible to be politely pretentious, then that's how I would describe this place.
The owner knows his coffee and does not hesitate to go into details about said coffee. I truly appreciate people who are passionate about what they do and about the products that they serve to their customers, I just wish the overall service had been a bit less stuffy and more approachable. That's not to say I didn't enjoy my experience or my beverage...I did...these are just my own tasting notes on my visit.
I ordered a pour-over Kenya Watuha Co-op, and the red fruit flavors were delicious. The coffee was smooth and not overly acidic. I typically don't drink my coffee black because of its tendency to be too acidic, but this cup was pretty much perfect. I ordered a biscotti to go with it, and that was just the touch of sweetness I wanted in between sips.
If you prefer your caffeine accompanied by dairy, you'd best order a cappucino or a latte, because the coffee here is brewed by the cup and only served black. I'd love to come back to try an espresso beverage, just to experience the other side of what they offer. I've also read that they offer coffee tasting courses, which sound interesting. This is exactly the kind of place that I'd want to go for that kind of learning, because they definitely know their stuff!
