Went to the Neighborhood Flea market in the Strip District this past Sunday and to my joy and enlightenment, the Mac & Gold truck was there! I've had this place on my list since a friend of mine always raves about it. Unfortunately, since I don't work around areas the truck frequents, I'm always missing out. So when I saw it - I had to get it even though I just ate and was bursting at the seams as it was.
Opted for the bacon, blue, brisket, and mushroom mac & cheese...minus the blue - I'm not a fan. It was delicious. The past was a cellentani noodle (the long curly ones - I totally just googled that) and the cheese seemed was definitely not something from a box or packet. It wasn't too creamy, just about right as they pan fry the noodles before packing them in the box. Though delicious, I do wish there was a bit more brisket. I definitely had the smoked bacon taste, but the brisket I expected to be able to see whole pieces instead of chopped bits. They also top with a sprinkle of bread crumbs for added texture.
Their to-go style boxes are perfect. Wax lined and ready to pack up if you can't finish. And I must say it's a hearty meal. I like to think I can eat well, but that day I was not up to the challenge. Needless to say it was today's lunch.
