| - If I could, I would give another half star.
This is the kind of supply house that professional hair salons go to shop. Or tell their clients to go there to get that hard-to-find product. They have *everything*. Expensive and cheap shampoos, conditioners, all kinds of styling products, and as dinah g. said, wall to wall extensions in all colours and types - human hair mainly, but some synthetic hair.
What makes me laugh is that it is run by a man with a charming accent from Ghana, West Africa who has very short or a shaved head! LOL! (Emmanuel).
This afternoon I went in to ask if they had my much coveted "Shimmer Lights" - a purple shampoo that blondes use on their hair to take that yellow, brassy shade out. Not only did he have Shimmer Lights but two other popular brands in 2 sizes.
I was looking at the hair extensions - I want to get a very slim one in cherry-red to wear - and the owner couldn't be nicer. He showed me exactly how to "install" (can't think of the word) it and suggested I buy it closer to summer when things were more festive. Ever cool, a big, butch man telling me how to wear an extension and when! It wasn't expensive either!
Skip to today: March 1, 2012. I went back to get my scarlet hair extension and 'Manuel was more than helpful, even though he had other customers. I told him I had my heart set on the scarlet extension and would take his advice on summer colors in the summer. You see I met a woman who owns a salon "Herman Brown's" who is moving to 4th St., but she is putting in the extension tomorrow before she moves. I will be reviewing her!
Back to NYLA - Bee's Wax, Coconut Oil, Brazilian Blowout, all sorts of baubles and fun stuff, makeup for your eyebrows, whatever you want is at NYLA. You've got to check it out when you have time!
Even if you don't intend to buy, treat yourself to a look around the shop. If you're alone, you will see people smother their smiles as you exclaim, "Oh Wow!" "Oh!" "Wow"! as I did in my solo trips. I can't resist passing the shop without at least a quick trip in just to see what's new!
