| - Excellent care, great facility and prices that are not out of line for an emergency clinic. Our Beagle found something that tasted good, but was surrounded by sand on the beach. We knew something was wrong on Sunday morning and this clinic was recommended by our regular vet (over some others in the east end who seem to be higher profile, higher visibility, higher price, but lower service).
Our vet was correct...this clinic is top notch. Our initial consultation with Dr Nelson was quick, clear and fair....sand ingestIon, dehydration. After physical examination, they treated with a shot for pain/cramping, added some subcutaneous fluids and some meds to take home, if the diarrhea continued. We were offered, but not pushed, into an x-ray, however were provided with clear indicators of a worsening condition. The fee was what we would expect from our regular vet...but this was a Sunday morning.
Within a few hours at home, we could tell her condition was worsening and by the afternoon, we came back. The initial triage techs this time immediately took her for x-rays and we shortly saw a doctor who explained the results and options to us. We were provided written estimates for care with a few options. Leaving our baby overnight was tough but we knew she was very ill and better there than with us. There are doctors on staff 24hrs a day.
The staff fielded our phone calls for updates, with patience. The least intrusive treatment was suggested and followed and the next morning we were able go to the clinic and take her for a short walk (IV bag and all), to get her bowels moving. We asked for a second x-ray, they didn't push it, which showed the bowel obstruction was gone. Within 24 hours, we were home again and she is peacefully sleeping in her chair as I type this. Final cost was approx $150 less than the lowest estimate, approx $850.
