  • I'm not the kind of person who can sit still. When I was younger, I hated gym classes but loved to be outdoors. Since reaching adulthood however, I decided that being active and fit would be a priority. Because you know... life. Barre is the only activity I've participated in where I haven't injured myself. I've done spin classes, Crossfit, the big box gyms, climbing, running, etc. Unlike all the other activities that are pretty high impact, Barre is fantastically kind to your joints and muscles. I don't profess to be a health expert of any sort, but I can tell you that since coming to Barre consistently for about a year (with a couple months break), I've been able to see a difference in how I look and feel. Parts look leaner, and other parts... a little oomphier. While there is a lack of cardio in these classes, you definitely get stronger with the isometric exercises done throughout the class. On Saturdays, if you need a cardio fix, there's a short, and very small, spin class after the first barre of the day. What I wish I'd known for my first few classes: - Get sticky bottomed socks: You can buy them at TJ Maxx, or pick them up at the studio for $12+. - You will shake, you will be sore, you might feel like everyone but you knows what they're doing. But that's okay, because the teachers at this studio are AMAZING and will help you out. I'm not sure how Sarah and Christa do it, but every teacher they hire has an awesome personality. - These classes are a great way to learn to focus. If you don't focus, you don't get grasp the intensity of the workout. If you focus however, the class flies by. The only thing that stopped me from giving this studio a 5-star review is the price. As a student, I have to be picky about what I do and how much I'm willing to pay. When they have semi-annual deals though, they're slightly more affordable, and I can convince myself to purchase a deal. Try this place out. These classes are trendy, but for a good reason: they're fun and you can get a great workout.
