My husband has surprised me twice by bringing me to the Joya spa - once for our first anniversary, and second was just yesterday for combined Birthday/Father's day/Babymoon day of pampering. I can only hope these surprises become a tradition! :) As a Phoenix local who likes to take advantage of the incredible amenities in our city, I've had my share of spa experiences and can honestly say this is one of my favorites. From the moment you walk through the doors, you feel like you're in a different world - very sensual, dark, romantic...not your typical airy, breezy spa experience...but I love it. Within the treatment area, there are a couple of dark rooms (lounges called the "Whisper Zone") with beds where you can lie down and relax. Or you can take advantage of the steam or hot tub (which I unfortunately couldn't do yesterday since I'm 8 months pregnant). My husband and I had a couples massage and I had my first truly prenatal massage with the pillows for me to be able to lie down on my stomach - it was the first time I've been able to do that in months and it was a treat!! We both felt so relaxed and at peace, and it just continued as we sat at the spa pool which has AMAZING panoramic views of Camelback mountain.
I highly recommend this spa to visitors and locals - it is a truly magical place and from a local's perspective, a great way to feel like you're on vacation without having to pay for a plane ticket! Enjoy!
