I would have previously given the AZ Science Center 5 stars. Mostly because I'm a previous science educator and I've enjoyed my visits. Yesterday, during our visit, a very shameful event occurred. During a fire drill evacuation, staff failed to assist an expecting friend of mine who was in a wheelchair. First we went to the elevators to find out if there was a plan available and we were turned around by staff because the elevators were shut down. I turned her around and pulled her backwards down two flights of stars. At the bottom of the two flights, an employee was telling our children to proceed to the exit. The kids ages range from 9, 7, and 3. My friend spotted the conversation first and I asked the employee if I should leave my friend to go with the kids. She mumbled something, like they need to exit. I told her "Absolutely not" and a gentleman stopped to help the last two flights. We left because of the ordeal and when I came back to get our parking pass validated, ToƱita at the information center explained that they should have had us at the elevators (designated areas) and the fire department would have gotten her out. I spoke with Nichole about it after and she explained that there was absolutely nothing she could do at this point. I said that yes, she could improve on her staff training for ext time. We could have had an accident that could have ended a 7 month pregnancy. Absolutely shameful.
