| - I was working on a dreadfully boring temp assignment in the equally dreadful Signal Hill area for a few weeks, and on my breaks would do most anything not to feel like I was in the midst of a power shopping centre full of yups.
Most of the time, I succeeded moderately by visiting Good Earth at lunch. I found that as I frequented the cafe a little more often, the staff became increasingly more talkative and friendly. When I inquired about Good Earth removing the only vegan friendly muffin from the rotation (pumpkin spice), the owner was great and encouraged me to write a letter to head office, which I did. It turns out that this muffin is removed from the menu for now, but head office did give me a heads up of the few vegan friendly menu items at Good Earth(excluding drinks obviously):
Loose granola (use soy milk)
Oatmeal
Lentil Stew
Tabouleh Salad
Split Pea & Barley Soup
Minestrone Soup
The staff also didn't make me feel like a pain for asking for almond milk all the time, and it even triggered a conversation with me as to why I choose it, whether it is yummy, etc.
Since I do not appreciate paying $6 for a drink (this, like every Good Earth is expensive obviously), I recommend the Rooibos "Americano," which is really just a lot of rooibos tea poured like espresso and is fantastic. A little almond milk and I am set to go. Very consistently, I did find this cafe to carry the Minestrone soup at least a few times a week which is vegan friendly; as is their tabouleh salad. Back in the day at the U of C, the Good Earth there used to keep everything in paper containers and microwave it on demand; I was happy to see this is not what this location does, and felt okay eating it. Even a small soup is a healthy sized portion. Minus one star for not carrying raw cane sugar like Good Earth used to.
