| - I was craving Mexican food tonight but wanted a healthy option as opposed to the greasy, fattening Mexican that I admit to loving every one in a while. So, the hubs and I headed to Chipotle Mexican Grill after I came across their website on-line.
Now, I've driven by this location a hundred or so times. AND I had watched the Oprah episode which detailed Chipotle and their healthy practices and delicious menu. So I suppose I set myself up for disappointment because although the food was fine, it wasn't as fabulous as I felt I'd been led to believe.
OK, so we get to Chipotle and stand in line for at least 20 minutes before we can even get up to the counter to order. When we do get to place our orders, I am disappointed to learn that a) the rice they serve is WHITE rice (seriously???) and b) they do not have ONLY white meat chicken. (their chicken is both white/dark meat) I thought this place was suppose to be health conscious? How is white rice and dark meat chicken healthy? I suppose the "healthy" aspect comes into play with the absence of melted cheese smothered across the top of their burritos and greasy re-fried beans as a side. Still, I felt a bit duped.
I went ahead and ordered the Chicken Burrito and my darling husband ordered the three steak tacos. I also ordered a side of chips/guacamole. First and foremost, let me say that the Chicken Burrito was fine--but HUGE. I would suggest splitting with someone to make the portion size more appropriate. The hubs liked his steak tacos--no complaints there. But the chips we ordered were SO incredibly SALTY! Oh my goodness, someone had a heavy hand with that salt shaker. Quite honestly, we couldn't even get through them and ended throwing them out. The guacamole was delicious though! Chunky, fresh and a beautiful green color like it should be.
Overall, I would eat here again (in a pinch) but would choose not to eat the rice and would avoid the burrito. I would chose the Chicken Burrito Bowl or Chicken Salad as they would be more healthy options. But I REALLY only care for WHITE meat chicken so that fact alone would prevent me from making this a place that I frequent.
I am giving it three stars because honestly, aside from the SUPER salty chips, it wasn't bad. The food was good and fresh for sure. I just can't seem to get past the lack of brown rice/white meat ONLY chicken. :)
