| - This was the first and definitely the last visit of this stake house in Old Montreal. I was in Montreal for a couple of days with my boyfriend. We had a choice between this place and another popular stake house, which is next door from Vieux-Port. After a short period of discussion we preferred to try this place, because the other one was already experienced by us last time.
So, right after the waiter escorted us to our table I went to the washroom to powder my nose and got shocked with the condition of the restroom. It was obviously low maintained: small pieces of toilet paper were all over the floor, the dispenser for paper in one of the cabins was broken and opened, unpleasant smell was all over the room. The environment of that place resembled me the one they have on cheap gas stations far away from civilization.
The food was average. I won't say that was the best steak I have ever tried, but it wasn't bad. I also had soup of the day, it was mushroom soup, nothing different from Campbells you can buy at any grocery store. For desert I chose Danish pie, which I didn't taste like freshly made.
The staff was trying hard to act like professionals, at moments stepping out from their roles and laughing loud with each other at the corner.
Generally speaking, don't expect to much from this place. It's overpriced and definitely doesn't worth you an evening. There are many other better places to dine at.
